Dear Wildfire Solutions Coalition members,
We are down to the wire, and we need all hands on deck to ensure that the Legislature does not leave town without fully funding wildfire resilience.
At the end of last week, the Senate proposed a spending plan to increase funding for wildfire resilience and other programs in Tier 3 of the Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund, which many Coalition members are supporting. There is also still time for the Assembly and the Senate to collaborate on a spending plan that includes both GGRF and Prop 4 commitments for wildfire resilience and other climate priorities. Meaningful funding now can help bridge to a more comprehensive resilience investment strategy in future years.
Please contact your Senator and Assemblymember NOW in support of two wildfire resilience budget priorities:
- Restore and protect the $200 million that has been traditionally invested in wildfire resilience every year.
- Allocate $500 million of Prop 4 funding to complete shovel-ready wildfire resilience projects across the state.
Your action today helps amplify the message of Napa County Supervisor Anne Cottrell, published this morning in Capitol Weekly: California’s wildfire future depends on what legislators do next. Our thanks to Supervisor Cottrell and Coalition member Rural County Representatives of California for their partnership on this timely op-ed.
Suggested Talking Points
Hello, my name is [Name], and I’m calling on behalf of [Organization].
I’m urging Senator/Assemblymember [Legislator’s Name]to support sustained funding for California’s wildfire resilience efforts by:
- Restoring and protecting the $200 million that has been traditionally invested in wildfire resilience every year.
- Increasing Proposition 4 wildfire resilience appropriations to $500 million in FY 2026–27
We appreciate the Senate’s proposal to fund GGRF Tier 3 priorities and call on both houses to collaborate on a spending plan that meaningfully funds wildfire resilience and other climate priorities from both GGRF and Prop 4.
Stable, long-term funding is essential to reduce wildfire risk, protect communities and landscapes, and maintain the workforce and partnerships needed to implement wildfire resilience projects across California. Thank you for your support.
