To the Future Governor of California:
Wildfire is making California less affordable. Here’s how reducing the risk of catastrophic wildfire will not only protect Californians but also get the rising cost of living under control.
California has a plan to make our state more resilient to wildfire. As the next Governor, you can address some of voters’ top concerns—including cost of living, public safety, and public health—through sustained investment in wildfire resilience.
89% of voters feel the cost of living in California is a serious problem.
Wildfires are a top driver of insurance, electricity, and water costs, and cost Californians $117 billion in damages each year.
Wildfire smoke could contribute to more than 70,000 deaths nationwide by mid-century, with Californians facing some of the highest risks.
Over 50,000 Californians have died from wildfire smoke impacts since 2008.
Nearly 7 in 10 California voters support increased investment in wildfire resilience.
Every $1 invested in reducing the risk of catastrophic events like wildfire saves more than $6 in damage and cleanup costs and $22 in future economic losses.
The next Governor will help shape California’s response to one of the state’s most urgent and costly challenges. Immediate, sustained investment in wildfire resilience is essential to protecting communities, stabilizing costs, and reducing long-term risk.
